Tim Maxted

High Sheriff of Leicester 2017-18

Originally from Yorkshire, Tim came to the University of Leicester to study Law at the age of 18. He has made the county his home ever since and currently lives in South Leicestershire with his partner Lisa and his two young sons Sebastian and Tristan.

Having completed his degree Tim went on to qualify as a Barrister, being called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn. His career brought him back to Leicester where he joined local insurance broker P&G Bland. He moved to another local broker – subsequently leading the management buy-out and creating Berkeley Insurance Group, now one of the UK’s largest privately owned Chartered Insurance Brokers.

As Chairman and Chief Executive of the Group, Tim is based at its headquarters in the centre of Leicester – appropriately at the old Police Headquarters buildings at Colton Square. He plays an active part in the local business community and has a strong interest in the county’s economic progress. He is interested in working with both the business and the charity sector to share knowledge and best practice, forging relationships across organisations.

Tim has been actively involved with a number of charities and appeals, including Chairing the East Midlands RDC for the Prince’s Trust, founding an appeal that raised over £300,000 for small local charities and working with Leicester Cathedral on the King Richard III Appeal.

He currently serves as a national Trustee and Board Member for Victim Support, is a Trustee of LOROS, Chairs the University of Leicester Philanthropy Advisory Board and sits on the University’s Strategic Development Board.

During his term as High Sheriff Tim wishes to focus on greater engagement with the business community, promoting social justice and supporting aspiration in young people of all backgrounds.
